Dazaifu City will host the "Reiwa Manyo Grand Tea Ceremony in Dazaifu". In collaboration with this event, the following tourism events will be held. We hope that many visitors will come to see these special events.
The "Plum Blossom Banquet" was a poetry banquet at which 32 poems about plum blossoms included in the *Manyoshu were composed, and from the preface to these poems the original name "Reiwa" was given.
When Otomo no Tabito, father of Otomo no Yakamochi, the compiler of the Manyoshu, was assigned to the post of Dazainosochi (chief minister), he must have enjoyed the plum blossoms, which were rare in those days, and composed 32 poems at the "plum blossom banquet," which must have been a very pleasant time for the participants. This historical scene will be reenacted in the present day.
*Manyoshu is the oldest (c. 759) and greatest of the imperial anthologies of Japanese poetry. Among the 4,500 poems are some from the 7th century and perhaps earlier. It was celebrated through the centuries for its “man’yō” spirit, a simple freshness and sincere emotive power not seen later in more polished and stylized Japanese verse.
Time: 2:30 PM

After the "Plum Blossom Banquet Reenactment," a parade of participants wearing Manyo costumes will be held on the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine (starting from Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine).
